Penelope Cruz is an Academy Award-winning Spanish actress who you probably know from famous films such as Vanilla Sky, Blow, and Nine. Penelope was born in 1974 in a Spanish town called Alcobendas in Madrid. Noticing Penelope’s love for the stage, her parents signed her up for a performance art class when she was just nine years old.

At the age of 15, Penelope found her true calling when she beat 300 other girls in an acting competition held by a prominent talent agency. This helped her land several roles in local TV shows up until she made her Spanish Cinema debut in a 1992 Spanish dark film Jamon Jamon.

Her performance earned her nominations in Spanish movie awards and made her one of the top-rated female actresses in Spain at the time. A year later, Penelope starred in The Age of Beauty, a Spanish film that won an Oscar. Cruz went on to dominate Spanish cinema up until 1999 when she decided to move to Hollywood.

She was an instant hit landing role in many Hollywood movies and working with top Hollywood actors such as Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, Matthew McConaughey, and others.
