Melissa Fumero is an American actress and director who is best known for her role Amy Santiago on Fox’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Fumero was born on August 19, 1982, in New Jersey to Cuban parents who moved to the US as teenagers. She grew up in New Jersey and then moved to New York at the age of 19 when she got accepted into New York University. Fumero graduated from NYU in 2003 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama.

In 2004, Fumero landed a role to portray Adriana in ‘One Life to Live’ on her last day as an NYU student. She played the part up to 2007 when she decided to terminate her major role contract with the series. However, she remained on a recurring role, appearing in several episodes until 2010. In 2009, Fumero made her film debut when she starred in Tiny Dancer.

In 2013, Fumero landed a leading role in Brooklyn Nine-Nine as Amy Santiago, a position she plays to date. Fumero’s directorial debut came in 2019 when she directed an episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
