She had two sisters, one older and the other younger than her. Lopez began her illustrious career as a dancer, appearing in music videos and stage musicals. In 1990, J. Lo won a national dancing competition which earned her a spot as one of the “Fly Girls” on the series In Living Color.

In 1995, Lopez made appearances in the critically acclaimed Mi Familia as well as small roles in Money Train and Jack. Lopez’s big break came in 1997 after she landed the title role in Selena. Her performance earned her widespread praise as well as a Golden Globe nomination.
